      That’s a great question!

Genes day to day contain all the information need to make a human, cells replicate and the DNA tells it how to make all the new parts needed!

Genes would have actually originated about 3.5-4billion years ago! Very very basic self replicating machines (primitive organisms, not even as complex as a bacteria) would have varied in how good they were at replicating and getting new molecules or nutrients or whatever to survive.

Those variants which were more likely to survive, survived more often and so natural selection takes place. This would have been the basis of genetics where the genes are a store of information for offspring to inherit and carry on the replication!

Genes are probably the most important things for our existence! Genes are the sections of DNA that act as a recipe to make proteins. Proteins carry out almost every function in our bodies. For examples they can be hormones, enzymes, antibodies, build cells and are also important for structure of our skin and hair. Without genes there would be no proteins and without proteins there would be no us!
