      It was first reported by Gregor Johann Mendel, who reported inheritance pattern in peas (Mendelian inheritance) in 1866. Unfortunately his work was largely ignored. It’s only between 1900 1925 that a number of researchers ( Hugo de Vries, Carl Correns Erich von Tschermak, and Thomas Hunt Morgan) and have characterised the inheritance pattern and “rediscovered” genetic inheritance (if they had internet back then, there will be less of this problem!).
