I am looking at a gene called DIS3 which is mutated in 10 percent of patients with a type of blood cancer called multiple myeloma. Finding out what this mutated gene is doing to cause cells to turn cancerous is a long process. I have been working on it for two years now and we have discovered some changes that happen in cells when this gene is faulty. It is still early days but hopefully eventually this will lead us to being able to find treatments that are personal to people with this particular mutation.
